This program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation in partnership with DaimlerChrysler Corporation, Detroit Public Schools, Ford Motor Company, Oakland University, Southfield Public Schools and University of Detroit Mercy.

The DAPCEP AYS Program is designed to:

1.        Improve students’ mathematical problem solving and reasoning skills through inquiry activity based, teacher facilitated student guided instructional opportunities.

2.        Expose and motivate students to pursue opportunities and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics related fields.

3.        Increase parent knowledge of technology and opportunities in STEM fields, and strategies for effectively supporting children (academics and motivation) interested in STEM Fields.

4.        Provide innovative teaching methods and effective technology integration to make facilitation of Science and Mathematics concepts challenging, engaging and interesting for students.

The DAPCEP AYS Program is part of a nationwide initiative by the National Science Foundation to identify and refine best practices in math and science education. In addition, the program will provide students, parents and teachers exposure to the latest in technology and technology applications.

The 2 year program will work with a cohort of 120 6th Grade Students. Parent/guardian participation is required for admittance and continued participation in the program; there will be joint parent/student sessions as the program progresses.
